Have you checked
our blog lately?
It's a great way to stay up to date on what's going on at
the sanctuary in between e-newsletters. Meet our newest
resident, (her name is Sasha!), and join us in a moment of
remembrance of Godfather and Mabel, who sadly left us this
month.Volunteers and visitors may also submit entries to
our blog! Send yours to amanda@sashafarm.org.

The Ann Arbor Art Fairs are coming!
Once again, SASHA Farm will have a table in the
non-profit section at
the Ann Arbor Art Fairs. This year promises to be
better than ever, though, as we have the honor of
partnering with
SMART, Southeastern Michigan Animal Rights Team, to
share the fun (and the work) of staffing the table.
This year, the Art Fairs will run from Wednesday, July
16th to Saturday, July 19th. During the week, the hours
are 10AM to 9PM, and on Saturday from 10AM to 6AM. If
you are interested in helping staff the table during any
of these hours, please contact
Kelli of SMART, who has very generously agreed to
organize the staffing needs this year, and she can help
you figure out how you can be of the most help. Don't
worry if you've never done anything like this before.
You won't be alone, and we'll help you help us!
A Peek Behind the Scenes at SASHA
SASHA Farm is the Midwest's largest farmed animal
sanctuary. You might expect that because of this
status, we'd be constantly asked to take cows, pigs,
goats or chickens, and of course, we quite often are.
However, most times when the phones rings or the
e-mails arrive, they are asking to take not a cow in
danger of slaughter or a hen whose fate hangs in the
balance because she can no longer lay eggs. Most
times, several times most days in fact, we are being
asked to take cats. Homeless strays. Feral colonies.
Cats who soil the carpet. Cats who are simply no
longer wanted. Simple math will tell you that caring
for all these cats would be impossible for even the
most well-funded, well-staffed sanctuary. One of the
most heartbreaking aspects of being a sanctuary is
that you simply can't help them all, no matter how
much you wish you could.
Our cat house is simply bursting at the seams. Many
of the cats here are happy, healthy, social and
perfectly adoptable. They are not in need of
sanctuary; they are in need of homes of their own.
There are cats here who truly need sanctuary, and only
by finding good homes for those who are adoptable can
we improve the lives of those who must stay.
We know it's kitten season, and kittens are cute and
fluffy and fun, but they don't stay kittens for very
long, and in a few short months, you'll have a cat. If
you want a cat, please consider adopting a cat. You
don't have to hope for them to eventually turn out to
be playful, laid back, independent or clingy, because
you'll already know what they're like when you meet
them.
Cowboy will smother you with kisses. Blackie loves
other cats. Janet is a beautiful, independent girl who
likes a little one-on-one affection once in awhile.
Simba is sweet and loving, and came to us declawed.
You can find them all (except Simba who has been a
little camera shy) on our
Petfinder page.

Our 2nd Annual Walk for Farm Animals
earlier this month was a success! Despite the high
temperatures, most walkers chose to complete the entire 4
mile route. Aside from the heat, the weather cooperated by
holding off the storm until all the walkers had finished.
Thanks so much to everyone who walked, pledged walkers, and
volunteered that day!
Dorothy,
Monte and a few volunteers take the tent down as the storm
rolls in.
The
results of our first survey
are in, and most of you told us
that you like hearing from us as often as every week or two!
For the very small percentage of respondents who would like
to receive our e-mailings less often, we'd like to offer the
option of browsing the
archives at iContact, and of course, our website, at
your leisure.
